Rheinbergerhaus

Description

In 1826, today's Rheinbergerhaus was assigned to the family of the princely rentmaster (tax collector) Johann Peter Rheinberger as an official residence. The future composer Josef Gabriel Rheinberger was born here in 1839. He died in Munich in 1901. His birthplace came into the possession of the state in 1957. Following a comprehensive renovation in the 1960s, it has been home to the Liechtenstein School of Music since 1969.

Rheinberg monument

To mark the 100th anniversary of Josef Gabriel Rheinberger's birth, a competition was held in 1939 to create a monument to the composer. A project by Franz Marcel Fischer was chosen as the winning project, which was finally erected in front of the Rheinbergerhaus in 1940.

The monument consists of a cast bronze bust depicting Josef Gabriel Rheinberger in realistic features. To the left of it is a relief of a lyre - a symbol of music - and to the right is an engraved inscription plaque.
