St. Nicholas parish church

The Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas in Balzers, built from 1909 to 1912 in the neo-Romanesque style, is an impressive testimony to princely architecture.

Description

At the foot of the medieval Gutenberg Castle lies the parish church of St. Nicholas: an outstanding example of neo-Romanesque architecture. Built according to the plans of the princely court architect Gustav Ritter von Neumann and completed in 1912, the building was largely financed by Prince Johann II of Liechtenstein, who covered two thirds of the costs. To mark the 50th anniversary of his reign, the municipality of Balzers dedicated the church to him as the "Prince Johann Jubilee Church".
