Description

The church of St. Peter in Schaan is one of the oldest sacred buildings in the region and dates back to a Roman fort from the 4th century. As early as the 5th century, a baptistery was built there, which is connected to a burial ground of the Christianized Rhaeto-Romanic population. The church was part of the Roman imperial estate and later fell to the Carolingian Empire. Around 1450, a completely new building was erected under the Lords of Brandis. After a fire in 1849, the church underwent several structural alterations, most recently in 1958 and 1995. It has been a listed building since 1951.
