Vaduz nutrition field

Information board on the Vaduz food field with a view of the Alps at sunset - a place of learning about sustainable nutrition in Liechtenstein.
The food field shows how much land is needed to feed one person and makes the importance of sustainable agriculture tangible.

Description

The "World Field" project has been implemented in Liechtenstein since 2018 and became a food field in June 2021. The food field of the Association of Farmers' Organizations shows the average area required to feed a person in relation to the arable land actually available. It illustrates the scarcity of land as a resource, but also the diversity of food crops. Crops are grown that are not or no longer cultivated in Liechtenstein, such as Ribel maize, soy and buckwheat. The Konrad family from NeufeldHOF Vaduz cultivates the food field, which is part of the "Lake Constance Garden Year".

At 12,000m2, it is the largest project in Liechtenstein in terms of surface area that aims to be self-sufficient. At the current standard of living, the field, which is the size of 1.7 football pitches, could feed three Liechtensteiners a year.
