Description

Schalun Castle, also known as Wildschloss Castle, can be reached from Vaduz in around an hour on a steadily ascending cart track in the forest. Along the way, you will also pass the new viewing platform. From the castle, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Rhine Valley.

The structural remains of Schalun are located on three separate, artificial levels. Access to the castle was secured by a moat across the northern plateau. Impressive remains of the castle core with the keep on the upper plateau have been preserved. The western plateau is separated from the rest of the castle complex by a moat. The few finds and features allow the first buildings to be dated to the 12th century. Alterations and extensions in the 13th century were intended to strategically secure the complex. It was completely cleared in the 14th century and then destroyed by fire.

This is the hiking route from the town of Vaduz past Vaduz Castle to Schalun Castle.
