Church of St. Martin
The parish church of St. Martin was built in 1894/1895 according to plans by the Stuttgart architects Beytenmiller and Kleber and has a long history dating back to the 9th century.
Description
St. Martin's Church in Eschen belonged to Pfäfers Abbey as early as the middle of the 9th century and remained in its possession until it was abolished in 1838. In 1840, the canton of St. Gallen transferred the patronage rights to the Principality of Liechtenstein. The original church building was heavily modified in 1438/1439 and 1640 before being demolished in 1893/1894. The current parish church was built in 1894/1895 according to plans by the Stuttgart architects Beytenmiller and Kleber. It was extensively renovated between 1977 and 1979.
