Spühler/Schäfer/Häne: The old king...
Description
A staged reading accompanied by accordion music by Theater am Tisch, featuring Hans Rudolf Spühler, Marcus Schäfer (reader), and Willi Häne (music)
Arno Geiger’s best-selling book *The Old King in His Exile* is a declaration of love for his father, who has dementia. *Theater am Tisch* transforms it into a conversation between father and son, bringing them closer than ever before.
Body
Willi Häne’s accordion music bridges the gap between fiction and memory. In cooperation with Demenz Liechtenstein.
Arno Geiger’s best-selling book *The Old King in His Exile*, in which he tells the story of his father who suffers from dementia, serves as a powerful literary source.
Dementia is one of the major issues of our time. Theater and literature can help raise awareness of the topic and, at best, offer new perspectives on it. We at Theater am Tisch would like to adapt the novel into a staged reading that focuses on the relationship between father and son. Willi Häne’s accordion music is intended to evoke memories and emphasize the poetry of the narrative.
The St. Gallen-based theater group Theater am Tisch, led by actor Marcus Schäfer, has been operating at the intersection of reading and theater since 2005 and has already toured many stages in Eastern Switzerland and the Lake Constance region with numerous original productions (including *Neue Vahr Süd*, *Zündels Abgang*, and *Am Hang*).
