Martin Schnur

Description
Martin Schnur (*1964) is one of Austria's best-known figurative painters. His work is characterized by the "picture-in-picture motif" - a superimposition of different sequences in a single pictorial field. Whether it is a solitary figure or a landscape, the focus is on the treatment of color, light and brushstrokes.
In the exhibition, the bechter kastowsky gallery presents an overview of the last 21 years. The oldest landscape painting in the exhibition from 2003 - on cardboard - is characterized by a brisk, horizontal brushstroke: abstract, melancholic. The most recent work in the exhibition opens up the stroke to pointedly placed traces of color, in the spirit of Cézanne: open and cheerful.
In between are several different work phases, which are juxtaposed and accentuated in the exhibition.
Martin Schnur's paintings have delighted numerous collectors for years - both nationally and internationally. In addition to private collections, his work is also represented in numerous museums, including the Belvedere in Vienna, the Albertina in Vienna, the Lentos Museum in Linz and the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg.
