Description

"In 'Herschel, the Ghost Dog,' Thomas Meyer and Magali Franov shed light on the subject of death with a soothing lightness. They treat children's ideas about life after death with respect, creating a picture book that offers comfort and hope, and not only in times of loss." Isabelle Stier, Deutschlandfunk Kultur

Herschel grew up with the Mick family since he was a puppy. Back then, Luise was still a baby herself, but now she is all grown up and Herschel is very old. He is not well, he is in pain and tired. The Mick family must say goodbye with a heavy heart. But Herschel is still there, he no longer feels pain, only lightness and joy. Full of energy, he floats around the Mick family, but they cannot see him. Luise senses his presence, and soon the Mick family has a new, invisible member. Finally, Herschel can vomit on the carpet or take a nap on the sofa undisturbed, because ghosts don't shed hair.

Thomas Meyer was born in Zurich in 1974, where he still lives today. He is a writer. Herschel, the Ghost Dog is his third picture book. He named it after his family's dog, who continues to be seen by all five members of the Meyer family even after his death.

Magali Franov, born in 2000, has been working as a freelance illustrator in Basel since graduating from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Whether in her studio or on the train, she is always drawing. She is also a passionate (city) cyclist, bookworm, and newsletter writer.
