Artis Quartet Vienna
Description
The Artis Quartet Vienna, internationally active since 1980, is one of the leading string quartets in the world. After studies in Vienna and the USA and early competition successes, an international career began that has taken the ensemble to the centers of the music world (New York, London, Berlin, Tokyo...) and to the most important festivals (Salzburg Festival, Berliner Festwochen, Schleswig Holstein Festival...). Since 1988, the quartet has played its own annual concert series at the Vienna Musikverein at the invitation of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. In 2001, the Artis Quartet was honored with the Lully Award 2001 by concertonet.com for the best chamber music performance of the season in New York City.
In addition to the normal quartet repertoire and numerous world premieres, the quartet's profile is particularly characterized by the composers of the Viennese fin-de-siècle (Zemlinsky, Weigl, Berg, Webern...). Many of the more than 30 CDs have been awarded the most important prizes (Grand Prix du Disque, ECHO, MIDEM CLASSICAL AWARD, Prix Caecilia, Diapason d'Or etc.). Participation in film, TV and video productions for UNITEL, BR ALPHA, 3 SAT, ZDF and ORF The members of the Artis Quartet teach at the universities of Vienna and Graz and regularly give master classes worldwide. Since 2011, the Artis Quartet has been in residence at the Norfolk Festival/Summer School of Yale University (USA).
